"Dubai Roads" presents the network of Dubai Metro stations in the Metaverse and its latest digital platforms at GITEX 2022

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced its participation in a wide range of initiatives, digital solutions, applications and smart stations, in the 42nd edition of GITEX Technology Week 2022, which begins tomorrow, Monday, at the Dubai World Trade Center.

The Authority is displaying, for the first time, a self-driving vehicle (Cruise) based on the specifications of the electric (Chevrolet Bolt) in its pavilion. New taxis, RTA smart applications, and more. 

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, stressed that the RTA’s expansion in digital transformation and the employment of emerging technologies and artificial intelligence in enhancing productivity, raising the level of operational efficiency, and developing services provided to customers, to facilitate the lives of residents and visitors in the Emirate of Dubai, comes in implementation of the directives of the owner His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai (may God protect him), in improving the quality of life in the Emirate of Dubai, and providing multiple options for the residents, so that Dubai is the best city for life in the world, and the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, to enhance Dubai's global competitiveness as a model for developing government work mechanisms, upgrading it to the best levels of efficiency, and achieving a full digital life.

Self-driving transportation

Al Tayer said: The authority has an integrated roadmap for the future of self-driving transportation, and is moving forward with the implementation of the Dubai strategy for smart, self-driving transportation to transform 25% of the total mobility trips in Dubai into smart self-driving trips by 2030, as it recently completed the initial stage of preparing the maps. In preparation for the actual launch of the service in 2023, Dubai will be the first city in the world outside the United States of America in the commercial operation of self-driving cruise vehicles, and next year, the authority will start operating the new generation of the self-driving cruise vehicle “Origin” with a limited number, to provide a vehicle service The fare and online booking service, and the number will gradually double to reach 4000 vehicles by 2030.

"Chevrolet Bolt"

The Authority will display, for the first time, a self-driving vehicle (Cruise) based on the specifications of the (Chevrolet Bolt) that is fully electric, and this self-driving vehicle is currently used in the commercial fleet of self-driving vehicles for Cruise Company in San Francisco.

Cruise launched its online self-driving vehicle reservation service in one of the largest cities in the United States for the first time in February 2022, and in September of this year the company announced its plans to expand to Austin.

GM and Cruise share a vision with the Roads and Transport Authority, in the contribution of self-driving vehicles, to a safe and less crowded future for all, which provides tremendous benefits to society in terms of enhancing the safety and accessibility of transportation, to contribute to enhancing the vision of General Motors. The authority also displays the latest technologies in the field of metaverses by adopting the digital twin technology for the railways in the Dubai Metro and displaying it using augmented reality technologies, and linking the digital twin platform with historical maintenance data (12 years of the Dubai Metro service) in addition to real time data using data collection devices Externals that help discover minute details and other critical situations that affect the lifecycle of an asset. 

The platform analyzes historical data and real-time data to provide recommendations to improve the asset life cycle, such as changing the periodic maintenance schedule and other approved procedures, in addition to system development and machine learning to predict possible future failures.

The authority also displays the services it provides through various digital solutions, the most recent of which is the service of selling and transferring vehicle ownership through the smart application using the digital identity without the need to visit service delivery centers, as the service will contribute to accelerating the pace of completing transactions.

The new generation of taxis 

Dubai Taxi Corporation presents the new generation of taxi and operating system systems, which is a system for managing taxi vehicles using artificial intelligence techniques to organize fare shifts by scheduling the distribution of vehicles to drivers on demand. The system by cameras in the taxi verify the identity of the driver. 

The Corporation also presents the new generation of taxi systems, which aims to display the latest technologies on taxis by providing: an interactive screen for passengers through which they can view (news, games, etc.), a new meter that can be operated through the application that enables the opening and closing of the vehicle, and a payment service. In its pavilion, the Roads and Transport Authority presents a definition of the new concept of the "smart station", as it presents the employment of the most important technologies and innovations in metro stations in the field of operation, maintenance and customer service, and also presents a smart application for coding the authority's assets, which is used by asset and property management inspectors during field visits. To check and update the assets information and their locations, as well as view the complete coding process that allows the employee, during his visit to the site, to complete the work via his mobile phone or smart tablet, and enables supervisors to follow the workflow from their offices in the authority and follow the status of the numbered assets.

It also displays within the digital channels initiative, the various digital solutions that provide the authority's services to customers, such as: the Suhail application, which is a trip planner and supports the first and last mile strategy, the main application of the authority, Dubai Drive for drivers and vehicles, and the Nol Pay application, which is a unified payment platform that includes Nol services, In addition to the presentation of the automated speaker system (Mahboob)
