8:14 am: IMF releases $1.3 billion in emergency financing for Ukraine

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) will release $1.3 billion in emergency financing for Ukraine through its new aid instrument to deal with food shocks, the institution announced in a press release on Friday.

This new envelope aims to "support Ukraine in the face of its urgent needs in terms of balance of payments" but also to "play a catalytic role for future financial support from donors and creditors of Ukraine", explained the IMF.

The Fund also underlined "the praise deserved to the authorities for having been able to maintain the country's macroeconomic stability in these extremely difficult circumstances".

At the end of September, the World Bank had also granted $530 million in additional support to "address the urgent needs caused by the Russian invasion", bringing the total aid granted by the institution to $13 billion since the start of the conflict.

8:07 a.m .: A fire broke out on the Crimean bridge, traffic interrupted

A fire broke out on the vast automobile and rail bridge linking Ukrainian Crimea annexed by Russia and Russian territory, forcing traffic to stop, according to Russian authorities.

"Today at 5:07 a.m. on the road part of the Crimean bridge (...) a car bomb exploded, which caused the fire of seven railway tanks that went to Crimea", indicates the Russian National Anti-Terrorism Committee.

"A fuel tanker caught fire at the back of a train," Crimean Railways said.

This bridge, built at great expense on the orders of Vladimir Putin, is used in particular to transport Russian military equipment for the Russian army fighting in Ukraine.
