The murderous trip occurred in the heart of the Strip.

Two people were killed with at least six others injured Thursday in a stabbing attack in Las Vegas near the Wynn Casino, authorities said.

The suspect, who fled on foot, was later arrested.

The victims of this assault, which took place at the end of the morning on the Strip, this long boulevard where huge buildings dedicated to gambling follow one another for miles, are "passersby and locals", said Sheriff Joe Lombardo during a press conference.

According to two witnesses, the suspect introduced himself as a chef and asked to take a photo with cabaret dancers while holding his knife, ABC and FOX channels report.

After they refused, he attacked them and then attacked several other people along the street.

Traffic closed

Several people on the Strip chased the assailant, who was eventually arrested by a security guard and police.

The suspect, described by police as a Latino man in his thirties, is a priori not from Las Vegas.

In front of the city's major casinos, traffic remained closed on part of the Strip Thursday afternoon, while police examined the crime scene for clues.

Stabbing attacks are rather rare in the United States, where mass killings carried out with firearms are, on the other hand, very frequent.

Five years ago, Las Vegas experienced one of the worst mass shootings in recent American history.

In October 2017, 58 people died and hundreds more were injured when Stephen Paddock, a 60-year-old man, fired more than 1,000 bullets from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay casino into a crowd attending a country music concert in outdoors.

This retired accountant then committed suicide during the police assault.
