The leaders of the IHU of Marseille presented Friday to the government "a first version" of their plan to put the institute back on the right track after the "serious dysfunctions" of the Raoult era, indicated the ministers of Health and of research.

After a damning report (Igas / IGESR) on the medical, scientific and managerial excesses of the Mediterranean Infection University Hospital Institute (IHU-MI) when Didier Raoult was at its head, François Braun (Health) and Sylvie Retailleau (Research) had finally announced on September 5 legal proceedings and the summons of the current leaders.

Roadmap

On Friday, Pierre-Edouard Fournier, successor to Professor Raoult, as well as leaders of founding establishments of the IHU represented by Aix-Marseille University and Marseille hospitals (AP-HM), presented "a first version of the new sheet road "of the establishment, according to a press release from the ministers, without specifying the content of this version.

The ministers “will pay the closest attention to the rapid and rigorous implementation of the recommendations and to the respect of the proposed deadlines”, they added.

"On this firm commitment depends the continuation of the activity of the institute, and that of the financing of the IHU-MI by the State", they again warned.

Cleaning at the IHU

Sylvie Retailleau and François Braun displayed "the requirement" for the IHU to "reconnect with a management that respects people and regulations, which is fully compatible with the agility initially desired for the IHU", according to their press release.

They also called for "restoring the international scientific level of the IHU-MI, in order to allow it to be recognized again for the quality of science and the extreme rigor in research but also in care".

Since the new phase opened on September 5, cleaning seems to have started a little at the IHU, long under the leadership of Professor Raoult.

Taking office at the beginning of September, the new director Pierre-Édouard Fournier announced the suspension of all clinical trials involving the human person, “pending the regularization of the situation”.

And the historic president of the institute, close to Didier Raoult, Yolande Obadia, has left office.

Emmanuelle Prada-Bordenave, State Councilor and former director of the Biomedicine Agency, was chosen on September 30 to replace her.

His appointment was welcomed by ministers on Friday.
