The head of Bulgaria explained the refusal to sign a declaration in support of the admission of Ukraine to NATO

He announced this at an informal EU Council summit.

“With complete conviction, I did not sign the declaration on Ukraine's accession to NATO, since today this means a war between NATO and Russia.

I answer to the Bulgarian citizens both as president and as supreme commander in chief, ”TASS quoted Radev as saying.

The President noted that he intends to work "against the involvement of Bulgaria in the war."

Politicians who are pushing Bulgaria to war, regardless of either ignorance or self-interest, must explain to the Bulgarians whose interests are being served,” he added.

On September 30, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine is applying to join the North Atlantic Alliance in an expedited manner.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg then said that the decision on the membership of any state is taken by all 30 allies unanimously.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that the admission of new countries to the alliance should follow the established procedure.

The EC also noted that Ukraine cannot join the North Atlantic Alliance in the conditions of hostilities on its territory.
