The

State Attorney General's Office

has ordered all the prosecutor's offices in

Spain

to guarantee that all the relatives of those who died in nursing homes and centers for the elderly as a result of the coronavirus pandemic are heard in the criminal proceedings initiated.

This is what he orders in a letter signed by the tax lieutenant of the Technical Secretariat,

Diego Villafañe

, following instructions from the attorney general,

Álvaro García Ortiz

, in which he gives the prosecutor's offices a month to send information on the number of investigative proceedings in each community, of complaints and lawsuits filed by them and judicial procedures in process.

The Attorney General's Office instructs the prosecutors of the communities to guarantee that all the relatives of victims are heard in the investigative proceedings and in the judicial procedures, ensuring their right to be informed, especially when they are not present in the procedure.

The decision of the Attorney General's Office comes in the midst of controversy due to the statements made by the vice president and spokesperson for the

Community of Madrid

,

Enrique Ossorio

, who last Wednesday said that Vox's proposal to create a study commission on the situation of nursing homes during the first stage of Covid "it only has an electoral interest and is going to cause damage to those families who will be able to think again if the death of their relatives could have been avoided".

"I think that the families have already overcome it and returning to this for electoral interest is not appropriate," he added, emphasizing that "a false message is being sent to the families because we are suspecting whether the deaths could have been avoided when they were not it's like that."

These words provoked the unanimous rejection of the left-wing parties in the

Madrid Assembly

, which received the vice president the next day with cries of "resignation".
