Doctors, judges and prosecutors are sometimes ready to do anything to convince Ecuadorian women to fulfill their mandate, that of being a mother.

Reporters Justine Sagot and Juan Ignacio Dávila met, in Quito and other cities in the country, women who had abortions and were prosecuted, as well as a lawyer fighting to decriminalize abortion, Ana Vera.

A fight that comes up against the radical positions of many leaders, starting with President Guillermo Lasso, a member of the powerful Catholic institution of Opus Dei.

Each year, a hundred women are prosecuted for having had an abortion.

This documentary allows us to discover the story of those who, in the shadows, go to clandestine surgeries to have an abortion, sometimes at the risk of their lives.

While in full light, organizations are acting to dissuade women from terminating their pregnancies.

This film is the winner of the Coup de Pouce 2021 prize from the International Festival of Major News Reporting and Social Documentary (

Figra).
