Foreign media such as AP and AFP and the BBC have reported that an armed man believed to be a drug gang in southern Mexico opened fire in broad daylight, killing dozens of people.

According to local authorities, at least 20 people, including the mayor of Mendoza Conrad Conrad, were killed in a shooting at the city hall of San Miguel Tortolapan city in Guerrero during the daytime, local authorities said.

Among the victims were the mayor's father and predecessor, Juan Mendoza Acosta, as well as several city officials and police officers.

'Tiera Caliente', a mountainous region in southern Mexico where this city is located, is said to be a place where conflicts occur frequently due to a struggle for dominance between drug gangs.

Locally, the Tequileros gang is believed to be behind the shooting.

Mexico's deputy security minister, Ricardo Mejia, said, "The attack was a result of a dispute between the Tequileros and Familia Michoacana, a criminal group operating in the state of Guerrero. They have committed extortion and murder,” he explained.

In fact, on social media that day, a video was uploaded by those who claimed to be members of the Tequileros gang claiming to be responsible for the incident, and the authorities are investigating the authenticity of the video.
