Concern remains in Mexico.

The fate of the couple of French nationals missing on the spot is considered worrying by their families, who are considering "a kidnapping", the sister of one of them told AFP on Thursday.

Since September 12, a 57-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman have not given any sign of life to their relatives, and have not posted any activity on their social networks.

The married couple has been managing two hotels and tourist rooms for several years in the state of Yucatán.

The woman has been in the country for more than two years, while the man has lived there for fifteen years.

The embassy and the consulate mobilized

If the research focuses on Chiapas, where the couple would have gone to a spiritual center in the tourist town of San Cristobal de las Casas, the families are skeptical and consider rather "a kidnapping" in Yucatán, hundreds of kilometers away distance.

By message, before September 12, the man would have indicated looking for land in Chiapas, while his wife spoke of this spiritual center.

"It seemed weird to us, it's not their style," Nawel Madjour, sister of the missing, told AFP, who also questions the origin of the messages.

"We think they've never been to Chiapas and the problem is in Yucatán," she adds.

On Wednesday, the French Embassy in Mexico assured that "its services [were] mobilized, just like the Consulate General of France in Mexico City, in close contact with the family", to find the two Frenchmen.
