Thursday evening, a 35-year-old man was arrested after an accident on a Belgian highway, while carrying nearly 80,000 ecstasy pills and fleeing the police at very high speed, the Antwerp prosecutor's office said on Friday.
The man, an Algerian who lives in France, refused to submit to a police check in the Dordrecht region in the south of the Netherlands.
He fled on the A16 towards Belgium.
The Belgian police, warned by their Dutch counterparts, spotted the fugitive shortly after the border.
Several motorway patrols then chased him in the Antwerp region.
Nearly 80,000 ecstasy pills in his car
A chase that pushed the suspect to accelerate to "speeds of up to 190 km / h", and to use the hard shoulder for certain overtaking, continues the press release.
The accident occurred on the E313 in Grobbendonk, east of Antwerp, when the presence of a service vehicle on the hard shoulder forced it to fall back suddenly.
His car then hit a truck.
The 30-year-old tried to flee on foot but was quickly arrested.
In his car, the police discovered 78,500 ecstasy pills.
