British Prime Minister sacks minister of state after complaint about misconduct

LONDON (Reuters) - British Prime Minister Liz Truss on Friday sacked British MP Conor Burns as Minister of State in the Commerce Department and suspended him from Parliamentary work for the Conservative Party after a "complaint of serious misconduct" at the party's annual conference this week.

Trace's office said it had fired Burns from a position at the Department of International Trade he had held for a month.

"Following a complaint of serious misconduct, Prime Minister Conor Burns has dismissed MP Conor Burns, with immediate effect leaving the government," a spokesperson for Terrace's office added.

He continued, "The Prime Minister took direct action as soon as she became aware of what was reported, and she is clear that all senior officials must maintain high standards of behavior as people expect of them."

Conservative MPs and party members met for a four-day conference in the central English city of Birmingham, most recently on Wednesday.

The nature of the complaint against Burns was not clear.

His office has yet to respond to a request for comment.

A spokesman for the Conservative MPs' office said: "We have suspended (his membership) pending the outcome of an investigation into allegations of improper conduct that occurred earlier this week."
