Citizen Sumaya Saif Al Kaabi launched an initiative to provide a package of material and psychological benefits to cancer patients in the country, both citizens and residents, in conjunction with the International Month for Breast Cancer Awareness.

Al-Kaabi told "Emirates Today" that out of feeling the suffering of this category of patients, and the psychological and material crises they are going through, she is working on preparing and implementing a package of programs to support them at the state level, as part of her larger initiative, which she called "a dose of happiness."

She pointed out that cancer patients need someone who feels them and their psychological and material suffering, and extends hands of giving and assistance to them, so that they can successfully overcome their ordeal.

She explained that the package of material benefits includes personally providing free hair extensions to cancer patients who lose their hair during chemotherapy and radiation, as well as hair oils licensed by health authorities in the country that treat various diseases.

Al Kaabi added that she is currently working in cooperation and coordination with the Emirates Cancer Society to hold a meeting with the owners of famous shops and brands, to provide a special discount card for cancer patients in the country, through which they can obtain products at reduced prices, and the discount rate ranges between 30% and 40%, as well as the possibility for them to obtain They receive free cosmetic services from centers participating in the initiative, after submitting identification papers confirming that they have any type of cancer, as a kind of financial and moral support for them.

She stated that the products that she provides free of charge to cancer patients are also offered for sale to those who wish to purchase them from non-patients, with the proceeds going to support insolvent patients who are unable.

She added that the initiative did not neglect the psychological aspect of supporting this category of patients as well, as entertainment parties, sessions, events, and workshops are held in which cancer patients participate to share their experiences with the disease, and stimulate their resolve to confront it.

Al-Kaabi created a special account on the social networking site "Instagram" to present and provide psychological and moral support packages for this category and provide assistance, as a window to reach them and gather them in one place.

Citizen Sumaya Al Kaabi went through the experience of breast cancer, and was able to overcome it by force of will and succeeded in recovering completely from it, which made her feel more of the suffering of this group, so she decided to provide all aspects of psychological and material support and assistance to cancer patients, because she lived the same experience before And learn how much patients need this support. 

“Health” fights cancer with “check and reassure us”

The Ministry of Health and Community Protection continues the breast cancer awareness campaign under the slogan “Check and reassure us”, in cooperation with the Pink Caravan, and the Ministry has published on its digital platforms in social media a video that embodies the efforts of health teams in several locations, including: Sharjah Mega Mall, Ajman City Center, City Walk Dubai, University of Sharjah, Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship Center in Sharjah, through which women were examined and positive cases were referred to the competent health authorities for treatment.

The campaign aims to raise awareness among members of society of the importance of early detection of breast cancer and the means of prevention, as October is considered the international month for breast cancer awareness, according to the agenda of the World Health Organization.
