"It's small things that individually have a small effect".

So writes the municipality's communications manager Magnus Källström in an email sent to all municipal employees in Älmhult.

The staff is asked to turn off the lights, and not to use decorative lighting in the windows of the municipality's properties.

- This should be seen more as a symbolic act, to show that we are doing something and not least to inspire not to have lights on unnecessarily, writes municipal manager Susann Pettersson in an email to SVT Småland.

Christmas tree and Christmas lights remain in the center

However, the municipality will leave the outdoor lighting as usual, and schools and special residences are not covered by the strict electricity savings.

- We are NOT going to shut down the Christmas lights in Älmhult, neither the Christmas lights in the center nor the Christmas tree that we are currently advertising for, writes Susann Pettersson.
