At the parliamentary audit held today (the 7th) of the National Assembly's Political Affairs Committee, there was criticism of Chung Mong-gyu, chairman of the HDC Group, who was selected as a witness but did not attend.

After the Hakdong disaster in Gwangju last year and the collapse of the outer wall of Hwajeong I-Park in Seo-gu, the issue of the multi-level subcontracting structure emerged.

However, two days before his attendance, Chairman Chung expressed his intention not to attend, saying that he was leaving for an overseas business trip to host the Asian Football Federation (AFC) Asian Cup.

Chairman Chung is the president of the Korea Football Association.

Lawmakers from the opposition parties criticized with one voice for Chairman Chung's absence.

Rep. Kim Hee-gon, from the People's Power, pointed out, "The suspicion of unfairness in Hyundai Industrial Development is considerable enough to say, 'Is this a company?' "I want to ask if football is more important," he said.

Baek Hye-ryun, chairman of the Democratic Party's political affairs committee, said, "I urge Chairman Chung to attend the general inspection of the non-financial sector once again."
