Russia: twenty additional years in prison for opponent Vladimir Kara-Mourza?

Vladimir Kara-Mourza is one of the last emblematic opposition figures left in Russia.

Placed behind bars last spring after being accused of discrediting the army, he has been, according to several Russian media since Thursday, October 6, also accused of high treason and faces an additional twenty years in prison.

Like him, he sees the accusations against him accumulate and the time to spend in prison lengthen.  

This Thursday, October 6, the Tass agency announced that the former companion of

Boris Nemtsov

, a politician assassinated in 2015, is this time accused of high treason.

According to the investigators, report other media, Vladimir Kara Mourza would have “

provided assistance to organizations of member countries of NATO for several years

.

According to the investigation, he even received $30,000 per month for this.

These charges have not been officially announced and his lawyer has not spoken.

But if they are confirmed, Vladimir Kara-Mourza now faces an additional twenty years in prison. 

The opponent had been imprisoned last spring for discrediting the armed forces.

The former journalist had repeatedly criticized the presence of Russian soldiers in Ukraine on social networks.

Vladimir Kara-Mourza, already qualified as a foreign agent, then saw his file increase for the first time in July 2022. He had been accused of having provided assistance to an organization classified as undesirable.
