Paulina Figaro was recently hired as the new director of culture and leisure in Åsele municipality.

There were about 40 applications for the position with varied qualifications.

According to the municipality's recruitment process, several people were interviewed.

After that, a handful of people were selected for the personnel committee, which would decide who got the position.

Appeal the decision

Sylvia Samuelsson (C), vice chairman of the municipal council, and Torsten Lundborg (L), member of the municipal board, believe that the municipality did not take into account the merits of many applicants who matched the advertisement, and who were not called for an interview.

Now they have appealed the appointment of the position to the administrative court.

- We don't want to go personal.

It is the recruitment process that we believe has gone wrong.

If you fulfill the requirements without being asked, there are major flaws in the procedure.

They have gone based on the intention and not the person who registered their interest with high competence, says Sylvia Samuelsson (C).

Known by the municipality

Municipal manager Nils-Petter Grenholm, the process is completed as it usually is with managerial positions.

He thinks it's sad that this has been appealed.

The person who got the position is already known by the municipality, something the politicians consider to be one of the reasons why that particular person got the job.

- In a small municipality, everyone knows each other.

That is something we have taken into account.

The process is the same no matter what, I don't feel like we could have done it any other way.

SVT Nyheter has been in contact with Paulina Figaro, who does not want to comment on where she thinks about the appeal or the process itself.
