The energy sobriety plan, unveiled this Thursday by the government, provides for a whole section devoted to businesses and communities.

In Grenoble, the company Schneider Electric has already taken the lead and acquired two years ago the most efficient building in the world in terms of energy consumption.

REPORTAGE

When it comes to energy consumption, no building in the world does better than this one.

As the government prepares to present its energy sobriety plan this Thursday with a large component devoted to businesses, the company Schneider Electric is one of the very good students.

Two years ago, its head office located in Grenoble was equipped with an extremely virtuous building which serves as an example in terms of energy.

It is a 26,000 m² building with golden walls and glass walls that can accommodate 1,500 employees.

The building produces its own electricity

An intelligent building capable, for example, of regulating the interior temperature and lighting itself.

"It detects if there is presence. If there is, it heats up and it lights up and if there is no one, it goes out. And we have sockets that only work the day, which is great, because at night, there is no consumption at all", develops Fabienne, who has worked for 16 years at Schneider Electric.

The building is able to produce its own electricity, explains Alexandre.

“There are photovoltaic panels but also wind turbines at the level of the parking lot which supply a large part of the building”.

A "thermo-changing" paint

But there is even more, reveals Matthieu, very proud to work on this site.

"One of the really impressive improvements is the building's paint, which is thermo-changing, that is to say, it will change color depending on the outside temperature in order to more or less reflect the light and recover the heat from the sun in order to heat as little as possible in winter. (...) It shows that it is possible to combine comfort, modernity and respect for the environment".

The building has become the technological showcase of the company and sets itself up as a world reference in terms of energy performance.
