Diamant Salihu, who has long monitored the criminal environment in Sweden, says that the shootings are about an ongoing conflict between two gangs, consisting of a younger generation of guys.

- There are young people who fight with each other.

It's a young group that apparently has access to lots of weapons, is vindictive and as I understand it, they're fighting over the drug market.

The outside world wonders what is happening in Sweden

Due to the many shootings in Södertälje, a major effort is underway from the police - but despite that, new things still happen.

- It says what driving force these people have to give each other.

One person has died and one has been injured after Thursday's shooting.

So far this year, a total of six people have died after shootings in Södertälje and in Sweden in total there are a record number of 51 fatal shootings, according to Diamant Salihu.

He has spoken to police officers who say that the outside world is questioning the shootings.

- When they talk to their colleagues in other countries, everyone wonders what is happening in Sweden.

This deadly violence we see is something that is unique to Sweden.

Few shootings are cleared up

Diamant Salihu says that the police have a good grasp of who moves in the criminal environments.

But new young people are constantly filling up.

At the same time, the police do not manage to solve the fatal shootings - four out of five fatal shootings are not solved, he says.

So what can be done to stop the shootings?

According to Diamant Salihu, the police mention, among other things, harsher punishments for weapons offences.

Something else that often comes up when SVT's reporter talks to people about solutions is the importance of strengthening the school.

- I looked at some of the schools in Södertälje very recently and could see that in several of the schools there were 20 percent, even up to 50 percent, of the students who did not pass the ninth grade with eligibility for upper secondary school.

Many who are recruited into the criminal environment are people who have not passed school and have not found a path in life that works better than the criminal path.
