In a special edition of national television at 9 p.m. (local time), the new junta in power set out the new fundamental act which establishes the exercise of the State pending the adoption of the next transition charter.

The Patriotic Movement for Safeguarding and Restoration (MPSR) remains the central organ of the state and therefore ensures the continuity and management of state affairs.

It is still composed of a president, captain Ibrahim Traoré, two vice-presidents, a coordinator and two commissions.

Its president,

Captain Ibrahim Traoré

, is now the head of state.

And as such, he is the guarantor of national independence, territorial integrity, the permanence and continuity of the State, respect for international treaties and agreements to which Burkina Faso is a party.

It is up to him to define and guide the security, economic and social policy, and the restoration of the integrity of the territory.

In his capacity as supreme commander of the national armed forces, he may make appointments to positions in the high civil and military administration.

Before the adoption of this fundamental act, it was from the international conference room of Ouaga 2000 that Captain Ibrahim Traoré consulted.

A source close to the MPSR assured that he could not make a significant change within the state apparatus as long as he did not yet have full powers.
