The European Union's foreign and security policy chief, Josep Borrell, said that the European summit held in the Czech Republic will focus on isolating Russia from the international arena, because of its war on Ukraine.

Borrell stressed European leaders' efforts to isolate Moscow and completely dispense with Russian gas, and called for a new security system to confront the energy and food crises.

Borrell explained that this does not mean that Russia will be excluded forever, but that "Putin's Russia has no seat," explaining that "a security system cannot be built with Russia, it is isolated."

The first summit of the European political group was launched in the Czech capital Prague, with the participation of 44 countries, including members of the European Union, to discuss various topics such as security, energy, climate, economy and war in Ukraine.

The summit comes in response to a proposal made by French President Emmanuel Macron last May to form the European Political Group.

The summit also aims to improve cooperation between European countries outside the borders of the European Union, such as Britain, Turkey, the countries of the Western Balkans and the Caucasus region.

In Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin expected that the economic pressure on his country would increase through the sanctions weapon, and said that he was aware that the pressure on Russia would increase, which required a response to this by adopting a flexible policy in the economy.

The Russian President stressed that the sectors dependent on exports to Europe are still under pressure, and that the transition to other markets needs time.

He pointed out that the countries that refused the supplies of Russian oil, gas and minerals are now forced to pay a higher price for those resources, as he put it.

The European Union countries had agreed to impose an eighth package of sanctions on Russia in response to its annexation of 4 Ukrainian regions.
