“Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Bastrykin instructed to open a criminal case on the fact of desecration of the memorial to Soviet soldiers at the Antakalnis cemetery in Vilnius, where the largest burial place of Soviet soldiers in Lithuania is located,” the Investigative Committee said in a statement.

It is noted that the vandals wrote obscene words in black paint on the steles.

The Russian Investigative Committee reported that more than three thousand soldiers of the Red Army were buried in the cemetery.

In 1984, six stelae-figures were installed there, which represent different types of troops.

Earlier it became known that Lithuania postponed the dismantling of the memorial to Soviet soldiers after the intervention of the UN.
