The National Police has arrested a couple, a 32-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man, as alleged perpetrators of a crime of injury and mistreatment of their two-month-old daughter.

As reported by the Headquarters in a press release, the woman has been arrested in commission by omission.

The events occurred this Tuesday, around 01:00, when a pediatrician on duty at a hospital in Palma

demanded the presence of the agents after admitting a two-month-old baby

with injuries and the protocol for child abuse had been activated.

A police patrol carried out the first steps, interviewed the doctor and collected information from the parents.

Agents from the Family and Women's Unit (UFAM) and the forensic doctor took charge of the investigation.

As they have indicated, the baby had several bone fractures, in addition to different bruises throughout the body.

The father argued that the injuries had been inadvertently caused while they were sleeping.

Through carelessness, he argued

they could have crushed her

.

Regarding the bruises, he said that "it could be a hickey or a caress that was stronger than normal."

The doctors verified that the injuries would have occurred at different moments in time and that they would not correspond to what was argued by the father.

Thus, some bruises could have been caused by an

object on the minor

, so the injuries could correspond to continued mistreatment.

The UFAM agents verified that the baby had been treated twice in another center for several superficial bruises.

In view of the facts, the agents arrested the father as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of injury and mistreatment, as well as the mother as the alleged perpetrator of the same crimes in this case by omission.
