Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz warned today, Thursday, that Lebanon will pay a heavy price if Hezbollah tries to "harm Israel."

"If Hezbollah seeks to harm our infrastructure and our sovereignty, the military price that the state of Lebanon will pay will be heavy," he said at a memorial ceremony for dead Israeli soldiers.

Gantz added that Israel is ready to protect its infrastructure, "and does not want to fight a battle, but it is ready."

The Israeli security and political cabinet will meet today to discuss a proposed solution to demarcate the maritime border with Lebanon.

Israel rejected the amendments requested by Lebanon to the proposed maritime border demarcation, which was brokered by the United States.

Reuters quoted a Lebanese official confirming that his country had not received an official Israeli response to requests for amendments to the draft maritime border demarcation agreement.

Earlier today, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati said that the demarcation of his country's maritime borders with Israel is on the verge of completion, considering that by doing so, "we will avoid a definite war in the region."

In October 2020, indirect negotiations began between Beirut and Tel Aviv, under the auspices of the United Nations, with the aim of demarcating the borders.
