Yesterday, the Emir of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, issued an Emiri order appointing Sheikh Ahmed Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah as Prime Minister and assigning him to nominate members of the new ministry, according to what was announced by the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

This is the second time that this position is assigned to Sheikh Ahmed Al-Nawaf, as he was appointed prime minister for the first time on July 24, replacing his predecessor, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled.

It is noteworthy that Sheikh Ahmed Nawaf, born in 1956, is the son of the Emir of Kuwait. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Kuwait University and rose in the military until he reached the rank of First Lieutenant-General. He was appointed Minister of Interior in March 2022, and on July 24, 2022, he was appointed Prime Minister Then he submitted his resignation immediately after the election of the National Assembly, to issue yesterday an Emiri decree entrusting him with the presidency of the Kuwaiti Council of Ministers.

The reappointment of Sheikh Ahmed Nawaf follows the traditional consultations to form the government conducted by the Kuwaiti Crown Prince, Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad, where he received at Bayan Palace yesterday morning, Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the former Prime Minister.

The Kuwaiti government had submitted its resignation to the political leadership, following the release of the results of the National Assembly elections, while an Emiri order was issued to accept the resignation last Sunday.

The Kuwaiti constitution stipulates the resignation of the government, following the announcement of the results of the parliamentary elections, provided that the government is formed before the opening session of Parliament.
