Today, Wednesday, the Turkish Foreign Ministry summoned the Swedish ambassador in Ankara, and informed him of an official protest against what it described as offensive content against President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on Sweden's official TV.

The official Anadolu Agency said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Swedish Ambassador Staffan Herstrom that "the ugly phrases and scenes directed against President Erdogan and Turkey" that were included in a Swedish TV program cannot be accepted.

On the other hand, Reuters indicated that this step comes at a time when a Swedish delegation is expected to visit the Turkish capital to discuss the details of handing over figures Ankara classifies as "terrorists", which Ankara says is a condition for granting Turkish approval of Sweden and Finland's efforts to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). ).

It is noteworthy that a tripartite memorandum was signed between Turkey, Finland and Sweden on the membership file during the NATO summit held on June 28 in the Spanish capital Madrid, and the first meeting of the permanent joint mechanism was held on August 26 in the Finnish city of Vantaa.

In early October, the Turkish president stressed that if these two countries did not fulfill the promises made to his country, they would maintain their "principal position", knowing that Erdogan had threatened since last May to block their accession to NATO.
