The 16-month prison sentence imposed by the Frankfurt District Court became final on Wednesday at the Frankfurt Regional Court after the accused withdrew his appeal.

The appellate judge had previously signaled that his colleague's verdict was "reasonable and correct."

During the journey on the bus in the Höchst district of Frankfurt, the accused was made aware of the obligation to wear a mask by one of the passengers.

The twenty-eight-year-old then received two heavy blows in the face from the accused.

After further clashes broke out and the bus driver called for the police, the officers were attacked and resistance activities were carried out.

The drunk passenger was eventually arrested.

The prison sentence in the first instance was mainly based on a previous conviction for several thefts, the probation period for which had not yet expired.

Against this background, a suspended sentence is out of the question, said the presiding judge.
