Students at Goethe University who define themselves as trans, intersex or non-binary can now have their first name or gender entry changed more easily by the university administration.

As the university announced on Wednesday, in the future it will be sufficient to present the supplementary ID of the German Society for Transidentity and Intersexuality and to fill out a form.

In addition, diplomas and certificates could now be issued with the new first name and the self-chosen gender.

Previously, such changes were only possible in internal university documents.

University President Enrico Schleiff said that an "important step towards equal treatment" had been taken.

The university group “Rosa*Liste” was also pleased.

Hopefully, discriminatory situations such as forced outings are now a thing of the past.
