It is a 1,300 km border, an invisible line through thick forests, icy and snowy most of the year, which separates Finland from Russia.
Impossible, and therefore probably useless, to erect a wall on the entire border.
Only 260 km will be secured: sections deemed too porous by the Finnish authorities, who will replace the current wooden barriers with better monitored grids, and less easily crossed.
Expensive works
This proposal made by the border guards, Prime Minister Sanna Marin responded favorably on Monday, October 3, but declared that she wanted a broad consensus on the part of Parliament, because this costly work could last several years.
