After closing its borders to Russian tourists last week, Finland is considering building a wall along its border with Russia.

If it has not yet observed illegal entries on its soil, this project aims to control possible massive movements of population, or hybrid attacks from Russia.

Proof that the Finnish authorities are worried about the security deterioration on their eastern flank.

It is a 1,300 km border, an invisible line through thick forests, icy and snowy most of the year, which separates Finland from Russia.

Impossible, and therefore probably useless, to erect a wall on the entire border.

Only 260 km will be secured: sections deemed too porous by the Finnish authorities, who will replace the current wooden barriers with better monitored grids, and less easily crossed.

Expensive works

This proposal made by the border guards, Prime Minister Sanna Marin responded favorably on Monday, October 3, but declared that she wanted a broad consensus on the part of Parliament, because this costly work could last several years.

The challenge is to reduce the security risk of a

mass exodus or

from Russia.

“

Europe is at war.

The situation couldn't be more tense.

 "

In response to some international relations experts who believe that this decision could increase tensions between Russia and Finland, the Finnish leader justified: “

Europe is at war.

The situation could not be more tense.
