The graffiti artist Lekto will be summoned before the criminal court of Avignon (Vaucluse) on October 31;

explains

Le Dauphiné Libéré

.

He is being prosecuted for anti-Semitism after creating a controversial fresco on the wall of a parking lot in La Cité des Papes last June.

The work, called

The Beast 2, the event

, represented the economist Jacques Attali pulling the strings of a puppet with the features of Emmanuel Macron.

The artist was immediately singled out by the Jewish Defense League and the Union of Jewish Students in France.

In the process, the prefect of Vaucluse had asked for the erasure of the fresco while the community of agglomeration Grand Avignon and the town hall tried to defend the graffiti artist by invoking freedom of expression.

Finally, the work had been covered on June 24th.

A complaint from the counselor

Despite this decision, the economist and writer Jacques Attali had filed a complaint on June 30 against Lekto for “incitement to hatred and racial discrimination” and for “public insult”;

says

Le Parisien

.

The artist should not be judged on October 31.

This first hearing must be used to ensure the continuation of the proceedings beyond the three-month limitation period governing press offences, our colleagues recall.
