North Korea expressed, on Tuesday, its support for Russia's annexation of Ukrainian regions, and accused the United States of "offending the United Nations Security Council."

South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported that Cho Chol-sol, director general of the International Organization Department of North Korea's Foreign Ministry, defended Russia's decision to annex the four regions, saying the referendums were held in accordance with the principles of the United Nations Charter.

"We respect the desire of the people who are eager for integration with Russia, and support the Russian government's position to make those regions within the state of Russia," Jo said in an English-language statement carried by the Korean Central News Agency.
