Investigations are underway on a new death from

Listeria monocytogenes

meningitis , possibly linked to the contamination that last week led to the withdrawal from the market withdrawal by the manufacturer of some batches of Würstel based on poultry meat.

It will take a few days for the results that will allow us to understand if the death of

an eighty-year-old from Alessandria

is linked to the cluster of

food listeriosis

, which has

66 cases reported in Italy since 2020

and three deaths in Lombardy, Piedmont and Emilia Romagna between the end of 2021 and June this year.

According to a reconstruction, he ate raw chicken frankfurters and was then admitted to the hospital in Alexandria.

Now the investigations will have to ascertain whether the man died due to the St 155 strain, which has already caused the death of three other people

The checks, carried out by the working group set up by the Ministry of Health to deal with the spread of the bacterium, had in fact revealed a correlation between some of the clinical cases and the presence of the strain of Listeria ST 155 in wurstel based on poultry meat produced by the Agricultural company. The presence was also confirmed by sampling carried out at the plant.

As reported by the Ministry of Health, the withdrawal of food products by the operators had taken place while the company started all measures to protect the consumer with the withdrawal of the batches that were positive (1785417 and 01810919) and, in application of the general principle precaution, of all those produced before 12 September 2022.
