Rental negotiations are underway.

Industry organizations have flagged that they want to see a rent increase of around ten percent, linked to increased expenses when electricity and interest rates become more expensive, but in Uppsala neither the municipal housing company Uppsalahem nor the Tenants' Association want to enter into any demands before the negotiations have begun.

- If that were to happen, many tenants would have fallen over the edge, you can't handle that, says negotiation leader Lena Jansson Nordin.

Want to see reduced profit requirement

From Uppsalahem's side, there is an increased need for income to meet increased expenses.

The tenant association wants the company, which made SEK 365 million in profit last year, to lower its profit requirement of 26 percent temporarily in order to dampen sharp rent increases.

- We conduct our business in the same way as other municipally owned housing companies in Sweden, a return on invested capital is required, everyone wants that, says Benny Enholm, head of administration at Uppsalahem.
