A 56-year-old man appeared on Monday before the Rodez court (Aveyron) for the arson of his house in Saint-Georges-de-Luzençon.

That day, in the early evening, the 50-something had doused the sofa with gasoline and set it on fire, before leaving the house.

He had warned his companion shortly before.

This had alerted the firefighters and gendarmes.

An injured firefighter

Despite a quick intervention, the flames had destroyed a good part of the house.

Thinking the house was occupied, a firefighter had gone upstairs and had been injured, especially in the face.

The respondent, who was alcoholic at the time of the events, would have acted in this way because he would have had a hard time with his partner's decision to separate from him;

but also because the owner of the house wanted to end the tenancy.

He was sentenced to eighteen months in prison, ten of which were suspended.

He will be able to do the firm part under an electronic bracelet.
