Since 2016, Region Västmanland has had an induction program that newly employed and newly graduated nurses have had the opportunity to attend.

Now, researchers at Mälardalen University, in collaboration with the region, will redo the process to develop the current program.

- The introduction program is a way to secure the short path to being new, to become independent as a nurse faster and at the same time try to provide the best conditions possible, says Christian Törnqvist who is HR strategist at Region Västmanland.

At the same time, the reasons why nurses leave their first job are high workload and a lot of stress.

Something that Törnqvist believes the region is constantly working on.

- We work intensively on the work environment issue.

The real problem is the failing labor market, we have too few educated people in relation to what we need.

That is the basic problem.

We need to work better and smarter in order to have enough competence, he explains.

In the clip, nurse Elisabeth Weinehag talks about how she experienced the introduction program and Christian Törnqvist tells the region how the program should be developed.
