　　In 2015, Ma Zhonglan, who had just retired from the newspaper, received a message "Invite you to become a people's juror".

This year, pilot work on the reform of the people's jury system was rolled out in 50 intermediate and basic-level courts in 10 provinces across the country.

After random selection and professional training, Ma Zhonglan became a people's juror in Haidian District, Beijing.

　　Years of life experience and professional work experience have allowed people's assessors like Ma Zhonglan to continue to play an important role in court proceedings.

With the gradual improvement of the people's assessor system, the people's assessor system has become more extensive and representative, and is playing an increasingly important role in participating in and supervising the judiciary.

　　On April 27, 2018, the "People's Assessors Law of the People's Republic of China" was officially promulgated and implemented.

This is a new leap for my country's people's jury system, and it demonstrates the distinctive feature of the socialist judicial system with Chinese characteristics that it adheres to the people-centered approach and fully protects citizens' democratic rights.
