According to information from Europe 1, Emmanuel Macron has requested an inspection of French submarine cables, submerged several tens of meters deep to ensure their safety.

This request comes after the four explosions in the Baltic Sea of the Russian gas pipelines Nord Stream 1 and 2.

A week after the four explosions in the Baltic Sea of the Russian gas pipelines Nord Stream 1 and 2, Emmanuel Macron requested an inspection of the safety of the French submarine cables, submerged several tens of meters deep.

The Head of State takes the threat of a potential cable cut very seriously.

Especially since France, the most connected country on the continent, is the main entry point of the European Union for data flows.

So Emmanuel Macron asked military officials - mainly from the National Navy and the heads of the intelligence services - for an inspection of all French infrastructure, i.e. around thirty mega cables.

The president also required reinforced monitoring of these wires which measure tens of thousands of kilometers.

The whole challenge lies in this mission because it is impossible to protect them all.

A risk taken seriously

Fortunately, on each cable, there are ultra-sensitive sensors, every kilometer, which revitalize the transit of data flows.

These sensors are above all capable of signaling any vulnerability or any act of sabotage.

For France to be paralyzed, at least 4 or 5 mega cables would have to be attacked at the same time.

This risk is not taken lightly.

Several of Emmanuel Macron's interlocutors have already suggested to him a list of actions to be put in place so that the most important data continues to circulate, such as banking information, connections to hospitals, airports or even security surveillance systems. 'potable water.

And so in the event of an attack on the cables, the Head of State could decide, for example, to stop Netflix or Youtube, which consumes considerable bandwidth.

More than 90% of all global data passes through these undersea cables.
