In fact, we are more in the continuation of the recall campaign started last April.

People over 60, those at risk of a serious form, as well as those around them, are invited to receive their second booster, or 4th dose.

New this Monday, however: they will be able to receive a dose of bivalent vaccine updated to deal with the Omicron variant.

Initially, only the one developed by Moderna to deal with the BA.1 sub-variant will be available but in limited stock, half a million doses.

Towards the end of October, the version of Pfizer adapted to the most recent BA.5 will arrive on the shelves in several million copies.

An outbreak of contamination

This campaign comes at a time when only a third of eligible people have received their booster dose, a low coverage rate which raises fears of an insufficient level of protection for the most vulnerable as the epidemic picks up again, as evidenced by the significant increase in hospitalizations since one week, +45%, and +30% in intensive care.

Such figures are unexpected in their magnitude, which is why the government recommends even people who received their fourth dose more than 6 months ago to receive a 5th.
