“Today, at the age of 81, our client Valery Mitko, the president of the Arctic Academy of Sciences, died,” RIA Novosti quoted the First Department project as saying.

On June 15, 2020, Valery Mitko was charged with high treason.

He is charged with the transfer of materials containing information that constitutes state secrets to the Chinese special services.
