Russian rapper commits suicide to escape conscription in Ukraine war

A Russian rapper committed suicide to avoid conscription and fight in the ongoing war in Ukraine after recording a live video in which he told his fans of his decision to end his life, according to Bloomberg News.

Ivan Petunin, 27, a rapper from Krasnodar in southern Russia, whose stage name is "Wookie", appeared in a video clip he posted on his Telegram channel, saying that he did not want to "be guilty of murder."

The video clip was later deleted, according to Avica's website.

"I am not ready to kill for any ideas," the late singer added.

The 93.ru website reported that the musician's body was found next to a multi-storey building in Krasnodar.

Petunin said that he was exempted from conscription due to psychological problems, but he feared that the partial mobilization decision announced by the Russian authorities would affect all men of military age.

And Betonin released a new album yesterday, Friday, called "Walk Out Boy 3" and asked his fans to listen to him and his previous songs to understand him better.

On September 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a "partial mobilization" by calling up 300,000 reservists.
