Reinfections are rising among Covid cases in Italy: in the last week they were 17.8% of the total, against 15.8% in the previous one.

The ISS notes this in the integrated surveillance bulletin published today on its portal. 

"From 24 August 2021 to 21 September 2022 - reads the report - 1,148,356 cases of reinfection were reported, equal to 6.4% of the total number of cases notified in the same period. In the last week, the percentage of reinfections is in increase compared to the previous week (17.8% vs 15.8%, a figure with longer consolidation times than other information) ".

Infections among the young and very young are also increasing compared to the rest of the population

(14.9% vs 11.1%).

In the last week, 25% of school-age cases were diagnosed in children under 5, 39% in the age group 5-11, 36% in the age group 12-19. 

In any case, the incidence rate in all age groups is increasing compared to the previous week: the highest is recorded in the 50-59 age group (267 cases per 100,000) while in the 20-29 age group it records the lowest value of 154 cases per 100,000.

The median age at diagnosis of subjects reported in the last week was down from the previous week (49 years vs 51 years). 

Also according to the ISS bulletin,

mortality among unvaccinated people is double compared to vaccinated with two doses and six times higher than those covered by the booster dose:

"The age-standardized mortality rate for the population aged 12 years - reads the report - in the period 05/08 / 2022-04 / 09/2022, for the unvaccinated, it is equal to 13 deaths per 100,000 inhab., and is almost twice as high as those vaccinated with a full cycle from 120 days (5.2 deaths per 100,000 inhab.) And almost six times higher than those vaccinated with additional dose / booster (2.2 deaths per 100,000 inhab.) ".    

As for the hospitalization rate, for the unvaccinated it is equal to 55 hospitalizations per 100,000 inhabitants, and is almost twice as high as those vaccinated with a full cycle of 120 days

(24.9 hospitalizations per 100,000 inhab.) And three times and half higher than vaccinated with additional dose / booster (15.5 hospitalizations per 100,000 inhab.).

Finally, the rate of ICU admissions for the unvaccinated is 2.7 admissions per 100,000 inhab., Four and a half times higher than those vaccinated with an additional / booster dose (0.6 admissions per 100,000 inhab. ).
