The European Union pledges not to recognize the "unlawful annexation" of Ukrainian territory

The European Union pledged not to recognize the "unlawful annexation" of four Ukrainian regions after Russia declared the occupied territories part of the Russian Federation.

"Russia is endangering world security," a joint statement from the 27 EU states said.

They called on countries and international organizations to reject the annexation.

"These decisions are null and void and cannot have any legal effect whatsoever. Crimea, Kherson, Zaporizhia, Donetsk and Luhansk are Ukrainian territories," the statement said.

The European Union pledged to impose strong sanctions on Russia for its war on Ukraine, as well as continue to provide economic, financial and military support.
