Lebanon decides to tighten measures to combat illegal immigration

Today, Thursday, the Lebanese caretaker government, Najib Mikati, chaired a ministerial and security meeting, during which it was decided to tighten proactive intelligence measures by all agencies to combat illegal immigration.

After the meeting, Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi said, "It was decided to tighten proactive intelligence measures by all agencies, and to intensify naval forces' patrols to combat illegal immigration and return illegal immigrants safely."

He added, "It was noted several proactive operations that were successfully carried out by the army, security services, and navy forces in the Internal Security Forces, as well as an inquiry effort by the intelligence and information services, where more than 24 illegal immigration operations were thwarted and hundreds of illegal immigrants were returned safely to Lebanon." ".

The participants in the meeting affirmed, "the request from the judiciary through the Minister of Justice to be strict in prosecuting those involved in smuggling operations, and hinted that this issue can be characterized as human trafficking, and may amount to a threat to national security."

In response to a question, the Minister of Interior continued, "We need more logistical equipment, and the crisis in the country will not discourage us from carrying out the required tasks with a double and aggravating effort."
