Bruce Springsteen
's new studio album
is coming
November 11
: a collection of
fifteen greats of soul music titled "Only The Strong Survive",
released by Columbia Records.
With the lead voice of the Boss, the work celebrates some
legends of soul music
, also passing through the catalogs of Motown, Gamble and Huff and Stax.
It will be
Springsteen's 21st studio album
and will also feature contributions from The E Street Horns, guest vocals from Sam Moore, string arrangements by Rob Mathes and backing vocals from Soozie Tyrell, Lisa Lowell, Michelle Moore, Curtis King Jr., Dennis Collins and Fonzi Thornton.
“I wanted to make an album where you can
only sing
, and what better music to work with than
the great American songbook of the sixties and seventies?
I was inspired by Levi Stubbs, David Ruffin, Jimmy Ruffin, Iceman Jerry Butler, Diana Ross, Dobie Gray and Scott Walker, among many others.
I tried to do justice to all of them and to the fabulous authors of this glorious music.
My goal is for the modern audience to experience its beauty and joy,
just as I first heard it.
I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I have loved making it, ”said Bruce Springsteen.
