Bills: doubling of electricity prices on the protected market avoided, 59% increase

"With an extraordinary intervention, deemed necessary due to the exceptionally serious conditions of the situation, the Arera limits the increase in electricity prices for families still under protection and, while remaining at very high levels, avoids doubling. The Arera, as envisaged by the bis aid decree, confirmed the strengthening of the electricity and gas social bonuses which, "for the fourth consecutive quarter will allow families admitted to this protection instrument to significantly offset the effects of the increases, also thanks to to contain the increase in the electricity sector made possible by the extraordinary intervention decided by the Authority ".

This was announced in a note, explaining that “families with an Isee level of up to 12,000 euros (a threshold that rises to 20,000 euros for large families) will benefit from it.

The bonuses are paid directly into the bill to all eligible families, provided they have a valid ISEE and within the indicated threshold, in the year 2022 ".

"The exceptional nature of the situation, with a conflict that makes supplies uncertain and continues to push prices up, deserved an equally exceptional intervention, even considering that Parliament and the Government are engaged in a phase of transition. A doubling of bills. it could have pushed an increase in arrears, further putting families and the energy system in difficulty ".

This was stated in a note by the president of Arera, Stefano Besseghini, commenting on the increase in electricity contained to + 59%.

"A Caporetto for families. A tsunami hit the country with devastating effects, as we have been denouncing for some time. The Government must immediately intervene with an extraordinary Council of Ministers to enact an urgent measure that blocks these stellar, crazy and unsustainable prices. We have asked Arera that even the electricity bills become monthly, as we got for gas, in order to spread them in a double period, making them more sustainable for those who will have to wait for their salary to be able to pay them, thus warning consumers a month in advance of the sting, making them become more aware of the urgency of reducing their consumption "says Marco Vignola, head of the energy sector of the National Consumers Union, commenting on the data from Arera. 

According to the study of the National Consumers Union, for a typical family it means spending on an annual basis (not, therefore, according to the rolling year, but from 1 October 2022 to 30 September 2023 in the hypothesis of constant prices), 662 euros in plus for the light, for an annual heart attack bill of 1782 euros.
