The junta in Burma today sentenced former civilian government leader Aung San Suu Kyi to three years in prison for violating the law on official secrets.

His former adviser, the Australian economist Sean Turnell, was also sentenced to the same sentence.

Local sources make it known.

The trial took place behind closed doors, as is now customary since the military took power.

The junta had already sentenced Suu Kyi to several prison terms.
