An online seminar was held to make use of Japan's experience in recovering from the earthquake in Ukraine, where the disposal of debris such as buildings destroyed by Russia's military invasion is an issue.

More than 120 people participated in this seminar held by JICA = Japan International Cooperation Agency on the 29th, including officials from the Ukrainian government and local governments, as well as officials from the Ministry of the Environment and companies from Japan.

The person in charge of the Ministry of the Environment cited the large amount of debris generated by the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 as an example. I introduced how I was able to reuse it and use it for reconstruction.

In response, a Ukrainian government official explained that as the fighting intensifies, the amount of debris in buildings such as houses and apartments continues to increase.

After that, he reported that a resolution that stipulated procedures for waste disposal was approved, that the division of roles between the national government and local governments was clarified, and that efforts were being made toward reconstruction.

The person in charge of JICA, who hosted the seminar, said, "I hope that Japan's experience will be useful in the field, and that it will help Ukraine build and implement waste treatment systems."
