Encarni's family mobilized the Arroyo del Fresno neighborhood to look for

Oliver

, the You You African parrot specimen that decided to turn its life as a pet around and instead of flying to the kitchen, it flew to the street.

"I took it out to give it some air," he says.

"He came out attracted by the outside light"

.

He watched the bird disappear.

Although the evocations about birds regaining freedom acquire the status of a metaphor, Encarni had a very bad time.

"He is my favorite parrot.

We called the neighbors, we put up posters, we reported the disappearance to Seprona »and they posted an announcement on the Facebook group Lost and found birds in the Community of Madrid.

At home there are four other parrots.

It was not the first time that they suffered a disappearance.

“When another one escaped, he was in a tree.

This time we did not know where it had gone.

He could have fallen anywhere.'

Encarni had taken a fancy to Oliver.

"He was like my son.

They can live up to 30 years

.

He always went with me.

They are like flying puppies.

They are worth up to 800 euros.

Two weeks later, he received a call from a delivery man from Seur.

“He found it the morning after he disappeared.

He had to spend a night of cold, rain and everything.

He found him half dead ».

According to Encarni's version, "the delivery man revived the parrot" and took it home "in the glove compartment of the car."

There he began to look for where he came from.

"

Oliver

has a ring as if it were his identity card."

Also, the delivery man found the Facebook ad.

"On Friday he called us asking if that was our parrot."

Birds lost and found in the Community of Madrid

has 3727 participants.

In the last month it has received 179 publications.

Most are missing bird notices like the ones some owners hang on streetlights with a photo, description of the bird, and a phone number.

«The page was created seven years ago.

When they escape, these types of birds fly neither too high nor too far.

I understood that if we focused on the Community of Madrid it would be easier to find them

», says Elena Dosil, administrator of the page.

From Chamberí to Casa de Campo

Birds that do not appear can end up in other houses or eaten by magpies.

The refuges only take care of the native species.

“If any exotic birds get there they could be euthanized.

Most are used to people and end up in other homes.

It is important to spread the word that these birds have an owner”, explains Dosil, who is an engineer.

The success rate is low.

«

The most effective thing is to publicize the disappearance in the neighborhood

».

Elena is Ukrainian and has lived in the city for 11 years.

She pasted a poster on a traffic light on Santa Engracia Street.

Her parakeet ended up in the Casa de Campo, on the terrace of the office of a girl who she decided to search the Internet for and found the Facebook page.

"I'm very happy.

It is a miracle for us.

No one believed it

. "

They had not heard from him since August 17.

"They returned it to me a week after uploading the photo to the internet

."

Elena Dosil started talking to other bird lovers in the

Cosas de agapornis

forum .

“We talked and shared information.

Announcing disappearances is more recent

».

At the Grefa reception, the animal recovery center, they only admit native fauna.

«You should not have exotic animals at home.

Some arrive with birds in poor condition but we do not receive calls asking about missing birds

».

Ricky's lovebird, an Ecuadorian construction worker, is also on Facebook.

«

I tried to catch it with the call of a neighbor's female lovebird but it didn't come back

».

He vanished in García Noblejas.

“I have put up posters and everything.

It still comes back after two or three months.

He went out the living room window and did not let himself be caught »
