The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry demanded today, Wednesday, a significant increase in Western military aid to Kiev, a day after the end of referendums organized by Russia in four Ukrainian regions aimed at its annexation, which sparked widespread Western condemnation.

"Ukraine calls on the European Union, NATO and the Group of Seven to immediately and significantly increase pressure on Russia, in particular by imposing new harsh sanctions and significantly increasing military assistance to Ukraine," the ministry said.

In particular, it called for "tanks, combat aircraft, long-range artillery, air defense and anti-missile systems."
