The list of former ministers, chiefs of staff, state secretaries and members of parliament who have gone from politics to public relations is long.

Politicians from both sides of the bloc attract - among the party leaders who have gone to the PR agency are, among others, Göran Persson (S), Göran Hägglund (KD), Maria Wetterstrand (MP) and Lars Leijonborg (L).

And the time after elections is often high season because many people leave politics.

- Yes, but it is clear that we and all the agencies that are active are looking for which forces will be free in connection with the formation of the government, says Charlie Stjernberg to Politikbyrån.

Fuzzy rules

For some years now, eligibility rules have been in effect for ministers and state secretaries.

The aim is that politicians should not be able to become lobbyists overnight.

But according to Charlie Stjernberg, the rules are vague.

- It is formulated very generally, which means that there is still a lot of uncertainty about what a state secretary or a minister of state can actually do after their political career.

As an example, Charlie Stjernberg takes the former S politician Ibrahim Baylan, who was not allowed to take foreign assignments.

- This means that there is a great deal of uncertainty among government officials.

"What can I do and not do?", he says and continues:

- One area where there are most question marks is precisely the influence industry.

Can you go from government to a PR firm?

And from what I understand, it's a bit unclear.

"Could lead to disaster"

At the same time, it is not primarily ex-ministers that the PR agencies are looking for.

- In general, I would say that the state secretaries are the hottest on the market.

There are certain risks with government ministers, says Charlie Stjernberg and continues:

- Not all ministers are super popular, and as a PR agency bringing an unpopular minister to a client meeting can lead to a disaster or simply not getting the assignment.

The secretaries of state are not as exposed.
