According to Erik Wåhlberg, the staff has been short of people for over a year due to retirements.

On Tuesday, the pre-school's principal informed about the staffing situation during a parents' meeting.

Two people resigned shortly before the meeting.

After the meeting, two more chose to resign.

- In two months we will have no one who can take care of our children in Jukkasjärvi, says Erik Wåhlberg.

The staff is on their knees

Annsofi Niva is acting principal of the preschool in Jukkasjärvi.

She believes that what she has heard from the staff is that they are exhausted and go to their knees when there are no substitutes.

The explanation why so few come to Jukkasjärvi, she believes, is the distance.

- It is absolutely not a fun situation.

Two people were on their way but got other jobs.

How are you going to solve this?

- We are in the process of recruiting.

We have four people that I hope we get to Jukkasjärvi, says Annsofi Niva.

Are there any plans to attract people with higher pay or other benefits?

- I can't comment on that now, but we absolutely have to try with all possibilities.
